M 20 (Trifid Nebula)

Finally I could catch it. I remember well, that when I was young, I found it one of the most beautiful objects in the sky, out of reach for me at that time. Since it is so low above horizon, I could get just a snapshot, but with a big tube you get something.
M 20 or Trifid Nebula is a star forming region 5200 light years from earth in constellation Sagittarius. It is powered mainly my its central very hot O-Type star.
M 21 is the open star cluster on top left in this picture. With an age of only 4.6 million years it is pretty young. It is a bit closer to earth, about 4200 light years distant from here.
