View into the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex about 460 light years from earth. The brightest star in this image is Rho Ophiuchi in the upper half of this frame. It is surrounded by the blue reflection nebula IC4604. Below we see cloud IC 4603, illuminated by more reddish stars, which give its yellow color.
The clouds form one of the closest star-forming regions to our solar system, which therefore becomes one of the largest in the sky – and one of the most beautiful in my eyes.
Unfortunately for me it does not rise very high above the horizon and is probably one of the most southern object I can image from my location. It was a small challenge …
