NGC 2238
NGC 2238

This is a narrowband image of this beautiful bright rose in constellation Monoceros (Unicorn).

The diameter of this object in the sky is more than two times the diameter of the full moon and it one of the brighter nebula. In many images this object is presented in almost pure red of the strong Halpha emission, but I gave it a try in false color resulting from the combination of images acquired with filters for particular spectral lines of hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur. My processing resulted in a pretty colorful version, maybe reflecting my deep desire for enlightening the current grey weather conditions, which are lasting for month now and gave me only a few hours per night with somewhat reasonable conditions.
The nebula is in fact a star factory about 5200 light years from earth with embedded star cluster NGC 2244 or Caldwell 50. Two bright O-type stars are mainly responsible for blowing the gas out from the center of this nebula forming this beautiful bubble.
