NGC 7000 (North America Nebula)
NGC 7000 (North America Nebula)

One of the largest hydrogen gas nebulae in the northern sky.

2600 light years away in constellation Cygnus it is a huge star forming region, partly obscured by dark molecular clouds.
In this snapshot we see the region around the „Gulf of Mexico“. The clouds forming the „Gulf“ are so dense that they attenuate the light of the huge O-type star which powers the entire nebula by a factor of 10000. Without theses clouds constellation Cygnus would show another bright star, approximately as bright as the star marking the head of the swan.
This is an SHO palette colored image illustrating the distribution of different material (sulfur, hydrogen and oxygen) in this region.
I would like to add stars with their „real colors“ – needs a few moonless hours more …

So many ways to bring out the different colors. This is only one … maybe others will follow.
