A star cluster embedded in a vast cloud of gas and dust in constellation Cepheus.

The powerful radiation of the stars exists the different elements in the gas cloud so that they emit light at very specific wavelengths. This image has been acquired using filters to separate the light of the elements sulfur, hydrogen and oxygen. The combination of these filtered images using a particular method called the Hubble palette result in this a bit unnatural view, which however reveals lots of details about the structure of this nebula. Dark clouds of dust and cold gas obscure parts of the glow behind. The small dark blobs are called globules and the most prominent here is called the Elephant‘s Trunk. It looks like what its name suggests.
The stars in this picture have been imaged using red, green and blue filters in order to present them in their almost natural colors.
Unfortunately quite some high clouds reduced the quality a bit.
