This is a part of the molecular cloud complex in constellation Cepheus, which also contains the more famous Iris nebula.

This cradle of young stars is located about 1800 lightyears from earth and contains many young stars, proto stars and Herbig Haro objects. The list of dark nebulae in this image is long: LDN 1168, LDN 1171, LDN 1155, LDN 1147, LDN 1148, LDN 1157, LDN 1152 from left to the right. Swipe to see an annotated version showing also several LBN (bright nebulas) and Herbig-Haro (HH) objects.

This is a two panel mosaic, acquired over two nights. The plan was however to combine four panels, each of 3 hours integration time, including the Iris nebula. However bad weather over the past months did not give me enough clear skies to complete this project in this season. Even these two panels would require more exposure time, but I decided to show what I have up to now. The other two panels contain only about 35mins of data each … let‘s see what I can get out of these.
