A molecular cloud about 1000 light years from earth in constellation Cepheus.

This image reveals quite some fine structures in the dusty molecular cloud of this star forming region. Within the denser parts a few Herbig-Haro objects shine through. These are streams of reddish glowing gas jets, expelled by very young protostars on the way to become a real star.
This cloud looks somehow like a piece of mud dropping into water from the top.
Two background spiral galaxies (PGC 69472, PGC166755) are clearly visible. The first one at just at the „head“ of the cloud, the second towards the top on the right side of the tail. If you look carefully there is another one on left side of the tail, almost obscured by all that dust … did not find the catalogue number for it.

This image is mirrored: north to the right and east to the bottom.
