
Messier 3

A huge globular cluster in Canes Venatici, about 33900 light years away from earth.
It contains about half a million stars, is about 180 light years in diameter and is one of the brightest in the sky.
Apparently there some dark structures visible in the core of the cluster which seem to be dark clouds within the cluster and not some foreground objects.
The cluster is also known for its large number of variable stars.
Globular cluster are very old objects. This one is believed to be more than 11 billion years old.
Somewhat of an overkill to go for it with the RASA …
